![]() This book will give awareness, understanding of safety and health issue among agriculture practitioners and methods in improving the safety, health and welfare of their workers and improving the work condition in the agricultural setting. This book entitled: Occupational Safety and Health in Commodity Agriculture: Case Studies from the Malaysian Perspective was written by authors from UPM, UKM and UNIMAP will add new information in the field of occupational safety and health in agriculture particularly in primary industry (oil palm upstream and rubber) and others including paddy, vegetables and pineapples. ![]() The same trend can be observed globally with ILO estimated that from a total of 330,000 fatality workplace accidents worldwide, some 170,000 originated from agriculture sector. The current policy is ineffective and need to be revised. This indicate that no proper occupational safety and health policy toward improving safety and health in this sector. ![]() It had been reported by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia, agricultural sectors is the second highest industry with occupational accident compared to other sectors with 7% increase in accident yearly without any declining trend. ![]() ![]() As UPM is transforming as an institution with the objective of strengthening as a centre of excellence in Agriculture, the issue of occupational safety and health has been ignored as a major contributor to productivity in agriculture industry. ![]()
